Joris, we were completely blown away, this place is so magical. It’s not mentioned in any guide book and the chances are high that Larung Gar was closed for foreigners in 2006. We were lucky to hear about it from a Chinese traveller in autumn 2013 and we were surprised that we were granted access without any problems. A good resource to check if it might be open for foreigners is www.thelandofsnows.com. From Sertar it’s only a 15 km drive. Definitely put it on your wish list! :)
